- This page is my small tribute to the most famous road
racer ever born...William Joseph Dunlop OBE, MBE, who
was killed at a race meeting in Estonia, competing in
the sport he loved. Joey was the most successful road
racer ever, with 26 Isle of Man TT Wins to his credit,
and a hat trick of wins in TT 2000, as well as many other
races too numerous to mention.
Joey was very easy going and without fear of contradiction,
the most liked rider in the sport. His home town of Ballymoney
paid tribute to Joey's acheivements by hosting a special
reception in the town after his TT2000 hatrick of wins,
with all of the town turning out to greet their local
hero.
- Joey not only excelled on the race scene, but he was
greatly involved in charity work. Joey would think nothing
of loading up his van with supplies and driving alone
to Romania and Bosnia to help those in need. This type
of action typified the kind of man he was and together
with his racing acheivements earned him the letters after
his name. For those of us who follow the sport, it is
a tragic loss which nothing can compensate.
- The gallery on the next page shows some photos I took
of Joey during the race meetings. I would also like to
thank Stephen
Wilson for the older photos
of Joey.
